Known as a panda bear or giant panda these are some of the beloved creatures on earth. It is completely unrelated to the Red-Panda despite the similar names.
This cuddly bear originates from China (South and Central) and can only be found living in the wild there.
Though pandas are a type of “Carnivora” they almost only eat bamboo, the tiny exception to their diet being grasses, birds, and rodents.
Pandas used to live in the lowlands of China but because of farming and the destruction of forests they now only live high up on some mountain ranges.
These days the Panda is a highly endangered species; it is what is known as a conservation reliant, endangered species. There are only about 2000 to 3000 of them left in the wild. No wonder it is the symbol of the WWF or World Wildlife Foundation.
Luckily some reports claim that their numbers are rising but there is no certainty about whether or not they will make it yet.
In the wild they live an average of 20 years and in captivity they live around 30 years, the oldest bear known has made it to the age of 34.
They are large creatures, weighing slightly more than most humans. They have naturally think, black and white fur which keeps them warm in the cold environments that they naturally live in and their bear claws have specialized thumbs which they use to hold the bamboo while they are eating.
This panda design has four variants. The first is a panda with black and white fur and a black nose, which is their actual appearance. The second is a panda with black fur and a pink nose and then we also have a panda with pink fur. The pink panda can also have a pink nose or a black nose.
